明けましておめでとうございマウス。
When Tsunami-earthquake struck Phuket 2 and a half years ago, over 5000 people died, Thailand alone.
Lives of so many people were forced to change, especially those of the family of the casualties.
Only thing I can pray for, is that such a catastrophe doesn't ocurr again.
So much grief, so much pain.
I have an American friend called Patrick, who is a diving instructor and was in Phuket on Dec.26th, 2005.
"That was a nightmare. Many friends of mine died. It took about a week until rescue from foreign countries came, so I was in the ocean bringing out the bodies of the dead for the whole week" he had told me.
"Did many countries come for the support?"
"Yep. U.S marines sent some ships, and did a good job"
"I see......and the bodies.....did you find them in the sea, and brought them to the shore, one by one?" I asked.
Patrick nodded and said, "You wouldn't imagine how terrible the disaster was. It couldn't be shown on TV. The body gets pumped up like a ballon when it's been in the water for a long time...........and the flesh is unbelievably soft"
I still remember that I felt proud to have a friend who gave a tremindous devotion to finding the body of the casualties.
And now, over 800days have passed since then and peace is back in Phuket once again.
Beautiful ocean and sand along the Patong beach........and we, the "Green-Green" (media tourist group from Tokyo composed of 6 ppls) found a blue sign there when we visited there in mid June.
This sign was set up after the Tsunami earthquake.
If you visit Phuket today, you find this sign everywhere along the beaches, so there is no need to worry where to head for even if you hear the "footsteps of the monster".
To prove that, I will show you another photo.
Yes, this innocent Thai man seemed to be taking a nap till I approached the sign.
The Thai people including him is in very relaxing conditinon along Phuket beaches today. I am pretty sure that you might even hear some of them snorting in hammocks.
So, if you are going to visit Phuket this summer, sleep like a log along the beach, and eat great fruits and sweets like these...
No matter how much you eat, you don't get fat as long as you are in Thailand.
The blazing heat and 15min.swim a day will keep your metabolism rolling.
There is no Michael Moore in Phuket.
Coppun crap!
Life is full of secrets and mysteries........
and I also found one in Phuket.........or "POO"ket......... Plz check out this video clip!
Thank you.
Look at the photo.
This picture was taken at a Bangkok Sky-Train station early on monday morning, and you can see that many people are wearing yellow shirts.
WHY?
What does it mean?
Are they Banana lovers? (members of a political Banana party?)
Do they have nothing else to wear?
mmm......the answer is both NO.
The interesting thing was, that I saw these "Yellow peole" not only on train stations but everywhere in Bangkok. Over 50% of the people I saw was wearing yellow.
So I decided to ask one pretty girl out in the street wearing a yellow polo shirt.
"Sawasdii cap. Why are you wearing mellow yellow?"
"Oh, this. We wear it to show sincerety"
"Sincerety? .....to what? or who? Monkey Bananas?"
"No no..." the girl grinned for a moment, and then continued "We show respect to the King by wearing yellow every monday"
Yes, that was the answer.
She also told me that this "custom" or campaign started last year in 2006, and is still continuing today.
It was just so amazing to see so many Thai people wearing yellow like this at their own will......take a look at the nex't photo, you see what I mean?
Then I looked at myself, and found myself wearing Tomato RED.....
Thailand is a beautiful country, with beautiful Siamese cats.
Eat Tom Yum Coong soup once, and you will know that Thai food is spicy and sweet and sour and hot! ....just like LIFE ^ ^
Thailand is officially called "The Kingdom of Thailand".....yes, therefore the King has the supreme power, and the royal family itself is highly respected by it's people.
During my visit there recently, I was pretty much surprised to see that from 8pm to 8:15pm every night, a video clip that shows "Royal Family Today" is shown on EVERY channel, at the same time.
TV newscaster would comment "a member of the Royal family visited xxx city today, and celebrated the opening of xxx factory!" and the video clip of the "tape cut" would be shown.
Thai people respect King Bhumipol very much, since they all know that the king has done a lot for the people He is 80 years old now, and there are sings that says "LONG LIVE THE KING!" everywhere in Thailand today.
However, on Dec.5 2006, a Swiss Oliver Rudolf Jufer, 57 sprayed something on King's portrait in Chiang mai and was pleaded guilty recently. He could face a maximum 75 year prison sentence for insulting the nation's monarchy.
Of course the man has commited a crime, but I hope that he will receive some kind of amnesty.....'cos 75 yrs is just too long! ( He'd be...135 years old when released..)
Oh, btw, if you are living in Tokyo, never exchange your money from Yen to Thai Baht at the Narita Airport 'cos the rate sucks! (Chiba bank especially) I strongly recommend you exchange at MBK center or somewhere within BKK, 'cos it's much much better (dunno why ...)
